There are lots and lots, and lots of subscription boxes services available today. The trend, or movement, has even helped launch websites and blogs dedicated purely to subscription boxes. It’s fun to follow those sites, and see what boxes are worth checking out, and which are not. When I learned about the launch of The Zoe Report Box of Style, $100, curated by fashion goddess, Rachel Zoe, my interest was more than peaked.
Once I saw what was included in the inaugural Spring Box, along with the summer hero item, I knew I had to be a part of the quarterly subscription service. After waiting what felt like an eternity, summer finally arrived, and with it my Summer Box filled with almost $350 worth of amazing goodies. In addition to the curated items, which are detailed in the enclosed booklet, subscribers also receive exclusive discounts from each brand featured in the box.
Hero Item: The Cambridge Satchel Company White Leather Pushlock Handbag – $150
When I signed up for the Summer Box, I already knew this handbag would be included. The summer hero item was teased back in April. (Though the Fall Box doesn’t ship till September, the fall hero item has already been released.) I know some people don’t like spoilers, but I don’t mind. I think this is one of the unique features of the service. Instead of releasing a smaller item as a teaser, The Zoe Report let’s subscribers, or potential subscribers, know what the biggest value item will be each quarter.
I must admit, when I first saw the teaser, I wasn’t that excited to receive a white purse. Then I held the actual bag in my hand, which also comes with its own dust bag, and knew exactly why Rachel Zoe says, “The white leather cross-body is everything.” The bag is beautiful and versatile. It can be worn cross-body with a causal outfit, or as a clutch with something dressier. Plus, the feel of the leather is divine; so smooth and polished. I can’t wait to take the bag for a test run on my upcoming beach vacation.
Too Faced Bronzer in Sun Bunny - $30
Too Faced Lip Cremé in Spice Spice Baby - $22
Too Faced is one of my favorite beauty brands. I adore their shadow palettes, but have yet to try their bronzer or lip products, until now. Spice Spice Baby is the perfect pinky brown neutral; great for summer and really all year long. It feels so hydrating and luxurious on the lips.
The Sun Bunny bronzer delivers the ideal natural glow, even on my fair skin. It blends to perfection, and actually makes me look like I’ve gotten some sun, which for me is impossible. I have two colors, pale or lobster, and I work very hard to avoid lobster.
The only disappointment I had with the Too Faced products was the discount offer. It had already expired when my box arrived.
O.R.G. Skincare Mineral Face Peel – $44
Until I received my Box of Style, I was unfamiliar with this skincare line. This product is designed to gently exfoliate your skin, and provide you with a fresh-face, dewy glow. Rachel Zoe recommends using it before self-tanning or to deepen an existing tan. I don’t self tan, so I can’t attest to how well it improves self-tanning.
I have used the Mineral Face Peel twice so far, and I really like it. It is cooling and soothing, and quite unique for an exfoliator, as it feels more like a serum. Basically, you apply it to dry skin and use your fingers to perform the exfoliation. My skin feels softer, and I did notice a difference in how well it helped my moisturizer absorb.
Bristols 6 Nippies – $26
In the spring box, Rachel Zoe included styling tape from this same brand. These Nippies are designed to provide great coverage for those times when fashion interferes with wearing a bra, i.e. racer-back, off-the-shoulder, etc. They adhere to your body so they aren’t noticeable underneath your clothes.
I would have preferred receiving styling tape over these reusable silicon nipple covers. Unfortunately, going braless, or wearing a bra without much coverage, is not an option I can enjoy, so I will be passing these along.
Mara Hoffman Sarong (Created exclusively for Box of Style) – $98
This sarong may be my favorite item in the box. Not only is it truly stunning, but also extremely versatile. You can wrap it around your hips, turn it into a halter dress by twisting and tying the ends around your neck, or wear around your head or neck as a scarf. I can’t wait to wear it on the beach in a few days. I know I will look like a beach fashionista, while staying covered up and protected from the sun.
I absolutely love it when subscription services provide me with exclusive. box only items, created by amazing designers. I was not familiar with Mara Hoffman, but I am curious to check out more of her colorful creations.
Bonus Items – Mara Hoffman Bikini Bag and Zoe Report Luggage Tag (values unknown)
I received a shipping notice for my box on July 3rd, but it didn’t actually ship until weeks later. Apparently, this happened to many of us, and as an apology, The Zoe Report sent these two bonus items, along with a letter of explanation. I was so surprised; what a wonderful way to make your subscribers feel valued.
The bikini bag features another brightly colored Mara Hoffman print, which I plan on using it to keep my a few of my beach accessories dry. The luggage tag is super cute and seems very sturdy. I will be placing it on my suitcase before my trip. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappear the next time I fly.
Bottom Line: $100 might seem like a lot to invest in a subscription box, but The Zoe Report Box of Style is more than worth it, especially since it only comes quarterly, offers future discounts on all items in the box, and has a value far exceeding the price tag. (The Summer Box was valued at over $350.) I know I will get use out of almost every item. Rachel Zoe and her team did an exception job curating the first two boxes in the collection, and I can’t wait to see what comes in the fall box.
